During his three decades in special education, Richard D. Lavoie, MA, Med, has served as a teacher, administrator, adjunct professor, visiting lecturer, and author. As an expert on learning disabilities, he has shared his knowledge with educators at numerous schools and universities. He also has been a consultant for organisations such as Girl Scouts of America, National Center for Learning Disabilities, New York Times, and Public Broadcasting Service.

Richard Lavoie is a member of the professional boards of the American Learning Disabilities Association, The Council for Exceptional Children, and Children with Attention Deficit Disorder. He was formerly executive director of the Riverview School, a residential school for children with learning disabilities in Massachusetts.
