What is the TSP?

Overview

The Teachers Skills Package is an innovative package aimed at classroom teachers of primary students with Specific Learning Difficulties across Australia and beyond.

The TSP content is organised into topics, chapters and then pages. Each topic ends with a test to help ensure acquisition of topic knowledge. Each test must be passed before continuing to the next topic. Upon completion of the course you will be entitled to receive a completion certificate.

Background to the project

The initial SPELD NSW Literacy Skills Package, upon which this internet package is designed, was developed to assist primary classroom teachers in early identification of SLD.

This project was funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, Science and Training under the Literacy, Numeracy and Special Learning Needs Programme. The views expressed in these materials are those of the authors and do not necessarily represent the views of the Australian Government Department of Education, Science and Training.

Aims of the TSP

  1. To assist primary teachers in recognising students who may have SLD and how to implement accommodations and age appropriate instructional adjustments to suit each child's identified educational and learning needs.
  2. To provide knowledge of school and other referal options so SLD students receive appropriate specialist support to help ensure these students are given full opportunity to reach their learning potential.
  3. To promote good practice within classrooms in keeping with syllabus outcomes, offering teaching ideas and strategies that will enhance the learning of students who have different learning needs.
  4. To raise national awareness of AUSPELD
